It’s nearly Earth Hour 2014!
8.30pm – 9.30pm UK time, Earth Hour is something I have participated in for the last few years.
“Earth Hour is the world’s biggest celebration for our amazing planet, hundreds of millions of people from across the world coming together in a symbolic and spectacular light outs display.”
I love the idea that people around the world are taking part (over 150 countries across multiple time zones), all raising awareness for the environment.
In my house there’ll be candlelight and storytelling in the dark. I love candlelight anyway, but knowing that the lights are out at major attractions such as the Eiffel Tower, Table Mountain, the Empire State Building, the Golden Gate Bridge, and closer to home, Edinburgh Castle, is amazing, and makes me feel that yes, we’re all in it together, and we can do something to help the environment.
If Earth Hour makes people think about the resources they are using and how they could use less, waste less and live a more sustainable life, then it’s not just a publicity stunt.
So go #EARTHHOUR 2014!
I hope that millions of stories are told all over the world tonight about how amazing our planet really is and the actions that everyone can take NOW to minimise the negative footprint of human life on our lush lands. #bebrilliant
